From few initial responses, to having to choose between three of the biggest companies in the entertainment industry, my internship search has been anything but easy and nothing but a whirlwind of emotions. However, after careful thought, prayer and consideration, I am beyond excited to announce that I’ve accepted a position with the Nashville Chapter of the Recording Academy—the GRAMMYs—this fall!
And although I have worked hard towards this achievement, I have to dedicate this prestigious opportunity to the driving forces that helped me get here.
1. To my family and friends: thank you for all that you have done and for pushing me to never lose sight of my vision.
2. To my students: thank you for opening your hearts and minds to my program and allowing me to share my story with you all. It’s been an honor and privilege.
3. To Todd and Cherise: thank you for raising such an honorable and life-changing young man who inspired myself and hundreds of others to leave their marks on the world. I️ couldn’t have done it otherwise.
4. To young minority professionals: I know how hard it can be to find your way into and around industries that seem like they aren’t really made for you. I know the anxiety that comes with marking your ethnicity, filling in your sexual orientation or simply writing your name in fear of immediate rejection. Keep working. Keep striving. Don’t lose yourself.
This one’s for you.
